Effective Governance – the only way out

February, 2022

  • Today’s economic challenges are largely a result of the yesterday’s economic decisions – made by several regimes
  • Ideally, these decisions should have been taken with the concurrence of the Country’s Civil Service and Technocrats.
  • Instead these economic decisions have been made entirely at the whims and fancies of the Politicians, who are not qualified technocrats.
  • In the process, the Civil Service has been turned into spectators, almost blindly following the instructions of the Politicians. No checks and balances in place.
  • India’s vibrant democracy, strong civil service and its impact on  managing the country’s economy, should serve as a learning.
