MTI Consulting
MTI Consulting this week launches the ”MTI New Venture Start-Up Challenge 2010”, a competition aimed at business schools, universities and young professionals from corporate organizations in Sri Lanka to take part in a competition aimed to test their strategizing skills.
The MTI New Venture Start-Up Challenge is designed to develop and reward the ability of competing teams (of three each) to research, strategise and present a new business venture start-up plan for an identified growth opportunity in Sri Lanka. This business challenge stems from the need for an entirely new mind-set and business model to reap the benefits of the ‘new world’ business opportunities that the emerging Sri Lankan economy has to offer.
Competing teams of the MTI New Venture Start-Up Challenge will be given the opportunity to select a venture from a total of sixteen ventures and present the viability and practicality of profitably implementing the selected venture. These sixteen Ventures have been strategically chosen based on MTI’s research on the emerging business opportunities in Sri Lanka also in comparison to other emerging economies. The ventures have been derived from the local economy and consumer needs, Sri Lanka’s capabilities (based on natural and human resources) and the current and emerging gaps in the market namely from high growth sectors such as Education, Healthcare, Agro, Financial Services, Knowledge, Energy and Environment and International Marketing.
The MTI New Venture Start-Up Challenge will provide the opportunity for teams to demonstrate a high degree of entrepreneurism, innovation and bottom-line thinking, giving them the flexibility to think and structure their presentation to convince an esteemed panel of judges who would wear the hat of an investment banker. Competing teams will also need to display extensive and smart research skills which will cover desk research, primary research and stakeholder research and will form the foundation of the venture presentation. The venture start-up plan will also be required to incorporate the type of venture (product / service), its size, the target market as well addressing demand generation, management of the supply chain, financial feasibility, mitigation of strategic risks and entry barriers, and a venture start-up action plan.
The competition will commence with all accepted applicants attending the initial MTI Briefing Session, where the venture allocation will be finalized, and teams will be given a time period to research and develop the Venture Presentation. The first round will see teams presenting to the panel of judges. At the end of this round, three finalists will be selected, of each will be given another venture for the final round. The winner will be selected from the finals.
Participating teams from corporate organizations and business schools are strongly encouraged to compete in the MTI New Venture Start-Up Challenge that will see fresh young minds working together whilst developing their team building skills, conquering professional boundaries, unleashing untapped talent and gaining recognition by peers and the industry. Therefore if your team has the winning spirit, the competitive edge and the ability to conduct extensive research, analyze date, formulate strategy and realize results, then this challenge is for you!
