Trust as a competency

July, 2020

  • Trust is rarely treated as a competency, but it is a powerful driver of decision making, motivation and therefore performance
  • Trust as a competency has two dimensions i.e. trusting (the other person) and trustable (confidence to the person entrusting)
  • ‘Hardwired’ thinking and biases have a significant impact on how trust is created in one’s mind
  • Developing the ability to separate oneself from one’s thinking is the starting point of developing this competency. This involves ‘unlearning’ engrained biases built over long periods of time
  • Trust me, it can be done!
